CCTC Joining Merit to Showcase Student Achievements Virtually

Sumter, SC (07/15/2020) — As a complement to Central Carolina's commitment to highlighting students and their achievements, the college recently added a new platform to publicize student accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.

CCTC has joined the large list of higher education institutions that are using Merit Pages so that students receive recognition when they are named to an academic or leadership position, volunteer in the community, make an academic honor's list, earn a scholarship, graduate and more.

This new service, to be operated by the Office of Institutional Advancement and External Relations, will allow CCTC students to get credit for their achievements and activities, and it will create an online profile at Merit Pages that can be used for jobs, apprenticeships and references after graduation. Students can also share their accolades with friends and family to generate more interest and involvement in the opportunities Central Carolina Technical College offers.

Why Is Merit Pages Important for CCTC Students?

  • Merit helps people who make decisions about internships and jobs find the "good stuff" about our students, and recognizes their accomplishments to show that they are authentic.
  • A Merit profile creates a positive online identity for post-graduation success. A CCTC student's Merit profile is a way for them to shine online to potential employers and others after graduation. The profile can travel with a student if they transfer to another university that uses Merit.
  • Students who are featured will be informed of the announcement through their college email address and encouraged to share their accomplishments with family and friends on social media channels, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. This will reinforce the positive accomplishment and will reflect positively on Central Carolina as a whole.
  • Student achievements are shared with former high school counselors, local news media and current legislators in the student's hometown.

Central Carolina Technical College is excited to offer another service that makes our students shine and demonstrates the impact the college has in the communities we serve.
