Donor Gifts $240,000 to Central Carolina Technical College for Skilled Trades Student Toolkits
Sumter, SC (04/07/2026) — An anonymous donor has contributed $240,000 to Central Carolina Technical College to provide comprehensive toolkits for students entering high-demand trade programs for the fall 2026 semester.
The investment specifically targets students within the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Design Technology, focusing on those enrolled in automotive, welding and HVAC programs. By providing the essential gear required for these professions, the donor aims to remove financial barriers and encourage more students to pursue careers in these critical industries.
The funding will provide specialized equipment for more than 100 students:
- Welding: Toolkits for students
- Automotive: Professional toolboxes, tools and uniforms
- HVAC: Toolkits and sheet metal kits for students
"We are incredibly grateful for this donor's vision and their heart for our students," said Misty Hatfield, vice president for institutional advancement. "This gift does more than just buy tools; it invests in the future workforce of our community. By easing the upfront costs for these students, the donor is helping them start their education on equal footing and with the professional resources they need to succeed."
The gift comes at a vital time as local industries continue to report a high demand for skilled technicians. College leaders hope the availability of these kits will incentivize prospective students to take the first step toward a career in the trades.
"This is a game-changer for anyone interested in attending CCTC," said Bert Hancock, dean of the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Design Technology. "For many students, the cost of professional-grade tools can be a deterrent. This donation creates an incredible opportunity for students to enter these high-demand programs without that financial burden, allowing them to focus entirely on mastering their craft and entering the workforce."
In addition to the toolkits, CCTC leaders noted that many students may qualify for free or very low-cost tuition. Depending on individual eligibility, students can leverage federal and state assistance including SC WINS, Lottery Tuition Assistance and other financial aid options.
Registration for the fall 2026 semester is currently open. For more information on available programs, class options, or to apply, visit cctech.edu.
