Central Carolina Technical College offers Thanksgiving assistance to students

Pictures added.

11/24/2020 (11/24/2020) — Sumter, SC -Central Carolina Technical College provided Thanksgiving meals to 79 students and their families this week just in time for the holiday.

The meals were provided through the Student Nutritional Access Center (SNAC), which is a food pantry created to assist CCTC students in need. Central Carolina faculty and staff donated items for the baskets. Funds were also secured through a few generous donors to offset the cost of the food.

CCTC students were asked to apply through the Office of Student Life if they had a need this year. In order to be eligible, the student must be enrolled at least half-time at CCTC, be eligible for or receive financial aid or live in one of the four county services areas. Central Carolina serves Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee and Sumter counties.

"Each year we assist students through the SNAC program," Student Life Coordinator Riquelle Robinson said. "Every October we begin the promotion for Thanksgiving assistance. Typically, we serve about 25-30 students, but due to COVID we had an increased number this year."

Robinson feels this program is one of the highlights of the year, especially in a time when student life activities have been extremely limited. She and other CCTC staff were able to personally hand the baskets to students as they picked them up.

Meals included turkey, macaroni and cheese, yams, green beans, stuffing, corn, cranberry sauce, gravy, rice and venison. The amount of items in each meal was proportionate to the size of the student's family.
