Fore the Brave: CCTC Foundation Golf Classic Raises More Than $34,000 for Veteran Scholarships in Honor of America's 250th
Sumter, SC (10/14/2026) — Area golfers teed off at Beech Creek Golf Club on October 2 for Fore the Brave: Veteran's Golf Classic, the CCTC Foundation's 16th annual golf tournament. The event raised more than $34,000 for scholarships for Central Carolina Technical College military veterans, active-duty service members and their dependents.
The tournament brought together local businesses, industry partners and community supporters for a four-person captain's choice competition. In honor of the nation's 250th anniversary, the Foundation chose to dedicate this year's proceeds to students who have served or are serving in uniform, and to their families.
"Our region has deep military roots, and many of our students have already given years of service to this country before they ever walk onto our campus," said Misty Hatfield, CCTC vice president for Institutional Advancement and executive director of the CCTC Foundation. "Dedicating this year's tournament to them was our way of marking America's 250th and celebrating 16 years of being named a Military Friendly Institution. Our sponsors, players, volunteers and Foundation Board members answered that call in a big way, and their generosity will help these students start the next chapter of their lives."
This year's total brings the tournament's lifetime giving to more than $484,000 in support of CCTC's mission. Last year, tournament proceeds funded scholarships for 20 CCTC students.
Two sponsors gave their teams back to the people the tournament was meant to honor. CCTC alumnus and professional golfer Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey, a Major Sponsor, donated his team's spots to CCTC students and alumni. Hatfield Heating & Air Conditioning donated its sponsored team to a group of active-duty service members from Shaw Air Force Base.
"Supporting the men and women who have served our country is a commitment every member of our board shares," said Bob Edwards, chair of the CCTC Foundation Board of Trustees. "We're proud this tournament can help clear the path for them, and grateful to everyone who came out to make it happen."
Players enjoyed breakfast, lunch and a variety of on-course challenges, including a new drone drop hole. Special contests included the Hole-in-One Grand Prize, Longest Drive, Putting Contest and Closest to the Pin. The top three teams took home cash prizes and trophies made by CCTC Machine Tool Technology students.
