CCTC Foundation Receives Grant from the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation

Sumter, SC (07/02/2024) — The CCTC Foundation has received a grant from the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation to support the Titan Simulation Center.

This grant will fund Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) training for CCTC nursing faculty and purchase state-of-the-art simulation equipment, enhancing the training opportunities for nursing students. The funding will also aid in the pursuit of future enhancements of the Titan Simulation Center.

New equipment includes an Adult Auscultation Trainer, which helps students learn anatomical landmarks and analyze heart, lung, and bowel sounds. Additionally, funds will be used to purchase a Pediatric Crash Cart with a Lifepack Defibrillator, enabling instructors to teach pediatric advanced cardiovascular life support through realistic simulation.

The CCTC Titan Simulation Center, located within the Health Sciences Center, features 11 simulation spaces totaling 3,415 square feet. Simulation education promotes clinical judgment, safe practice and cultural competence. Accreditation supports a culture of excellence, bridging classroom learning and real-life clinical experience.

"We are thrilled and deeply grateful to receive this grant, as it opens up incredible opportunities to enhance nursing simulation," said Taylor Dubose, department chair for the CCTC nursing program. "This support empowers us to shape the future of healthcare education through simulation best practices and accreditation."

The grant ensures training and certification for nursing faculty to implement best practices in the simulation curriculum. New equipment will provide an innovative and up-to-date learning environment for nursing students.
