Second Look Charities reaches $162,500 in scholarship support for Kershaw County students

Camden, SC (09/18/2026) — For 13 years, Second Look Charities has been helping Kershaw County students pursue their education at Central Carolina Technical College, turning proceeds from their local thrift shop into life-changing scholarship support.

The Camden-based organization recently presented a $24,000 gift to the CCTC Foundation, bringing its total contributions to $162,500 since 2013. The organization's annual gift has grown from $2,000 with its first contribution in 2013 to $24,000 this year. Their support has helped fund 81 scholarships from 2013 through 2025.

Second Look Charities operates a thrift-style shop in Camden featuring second-hand clothing and home decor. A portion of the shop's proceeds is donated to the CCTC Foundation to support scholarships for students from Kershaw County.

The impact of that support can be seen in the experiences of scholarship recipients.

"Your investment in students like me provides opportunities that might otherwise be difficult to achieve," said scholarship recipient Langley Whisenhunt. "I am honored to have been chosen and appreciate the confidence you have placed in my future."

For fellow scholarship recipient Joseph McLeod, the scholarship provided more than financial assistance.

"Your scholarship does more than just ease a financial burden; it actively validates the hard work I am putting in outside the classroom and fuels my momentum as I prepare to enter the workforce," McLeod said. "Knowing that your organization believes in my potential inspires me to keep striving for excellence."

CCTC President Dr. Jennifer Wilbanks said gifts such as Second Look Charities' support demonstrate the impact of local investment in students.

"Second Look Charities has made a tremendous difference in the lives of Kershaw County students by consistently turning the proceeds from its community-focused organization into opportunities for students to pursue their education," Wilbanks said. "We are grateful for their 13 years of partnership and their continued commitment to helping our students succeed."

The $24,000 check was presented Second Look Charities' board members at CCTC's Fred R. Sheheen Center for Excellence Kershaw County campus. Joining Second Look Charities board members for the presentation were CCTC Foundation Development Officer Ken Kelleher and Dr. Wilbanks.

CCTC serves students across Clarendon, Kershaw, Lee and Sumter counties. The Kershaw Campus, located at the Fred R. Sheheen Center for Excellence, serves more than 1,000 students and offers programs including associate degrees, mechatronics, welding, pre-nursing and criminal justice.
