CCTC Announces Final Four Candidates In Search For New President

Oct. 27, 2020 (10/27/2020) — Sumter, SC - The Central Carolina Technical College Area Commission has announced the final four candidates for the college's next president.

CCTC officials began the search this summer when former CCTC President Dr. Michael Mikota accepted a position as President of Spartanburg Community College in Spartanburg, S.C. Terry Booth, vice president of Business Affairs, has since been named interim president.

The final candidates include Dr. Marc David, Dr. Jeff Jochems, Dr. Kevin Pollock and Dr. Herbert Riedel.

Dr. Marc David has an extensive education background. He is currently an employee at Florence-Darlington Technical College in Florence, S.C. and has served in two key roles, including associate vice president for arts and science and vice president of academic affairs.

David has also served as assistant professor of English/retention coordinator for first-year students at South Carolina State University; director of undergraduate studies at Colgate University; assistant dean of students for multicultural affairs at Hamilton College; and dean of students at Dillard University. He has also served as professor and division chair of religion and humanities at Morris College and instructor, counselor, bridge advisor and English coordinator during the summer phase of Upward Bound at the University of Akron, the University of South Carolina and Benedict College.

Dr. Jeff Jochems served Ozarks Technical Community College (OTCC) as President/Vice Chancellor of the Richwood Valley Campus (RVC) for nine years and in other administrative positions at Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield, Mo. for more than 29 years.

As campus president, Jochems recently led the effort to relocate the agriculture program at OTCC to RVC including two new buildings and enhancing the program with the first ever live animals on campus. He also spearheaded an innovative program with the Ozark School District to bring juniors and seniors on campus for dual credit courses where the high school paid for the tuition and fees. Under his leadership, the campus consolidated the library, testing, tutoring, disability services and the open computer lab into one multi-functioning location. In addition, he facilitated the formation of a new student organization, The Helpers, focused on community service.

Dr. Kevin Pollock is currently a Senior Consultant at the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRO), and was previously the President at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, Pa.

Pollock has more than 38 years of education experience at four-year private and public colleges as well as community colleges. His diverse roles include college administration, strategic planning, leadership and enrollment management. He is a national expert on student success models, a frequent national speaker who has spoken more than 130 times at conferences and colleges and has authored more than 20 book chapters and articles.

At Montgomery County Community College, Pollock oversaw the implementation of a new core curriculum, including math reform, and the creation of pathways for all college programs. During his tenure, the college created a new vision, mission and strategic plan and updated its brand and marketing strategies. Dr. Herbert Riedel has served in several capacities in higher education, including faculty member, research center deputy director, vice president and president.

For 10 years, Dr. Herbert Riedel served as president of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, Ala. His tenure was characterized by many innovations, including new program offerings in advanced manufacturing, health care, short-term skills training, the institution of an honors program, the college's first student housing complex, redesign of the developmental mathematics program and several student success initiatives.

The Central Carolina Technical College Area Commission will select the finalist by January 2021.
